At Caterpillar Clubhouse Nature Preschool, we believe in facilitating positive life experiences through nature-based and emergent learning, guided by the child’s interests. We strive to cultivate resilience and problem-solving skills in young learners. By focusing on the “whole child,” we aim to enhance cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and creative skills. We deeply value play as a crucial learning tool that helps children understand the world, build problem-solving abilities, develop critical thinking, and enhance language skills. Through hands-on activities like sandbox exploration, mud kitchen creations, nature observations, and sensory play, children engage their senses, communicate discoveries, and develop a profound appreciation for nature and environmental stewardship.

I have put my heart into creating an authentic space where children feel valued and are free to learn, create and wonder together.

🍃 1. We have a NEW Outdoor Caterpillar Cabin classroom designed as an extension of the outdoor environment and children will be encouraged to access the outdoors/indoors freely.

🍂 2. We will follow a primarily Nature based curriculum which will encourage a strong connection to the natural environment and a genuine curiosity about the world.

Intro to our Nature Based Curriculum 🌿🌾 Caterpillar Clubhouse . It is a child-led, play-based curriculum that promotes active hands on learning while following the child’s unique needs and interests.

🍂Our spacious natural outdoor area is designed to include the following areas:

🌿Imaginary/Sensory area with a sand, water play, mud kitchen

🌿Active area with climbing and balancing equipment, tree stumps and logs

🌿Organic Garden/Vegetable raised garden where children can learn about growing their food, natural cycles, composting, recycling and reducing waste

🌿Arts/Crafts/ area 🌾🌻🍃Our outdoor environment will encourage independence, hands-on, self-directed learning. A variety of materials available in nature (twigs, sand, mud, leaves, flowers, wood) will encourage creativity and self-expression as well as promote early literacy and numeracy.

🌻Identity and Belonging In our garden classroom we will focus on learning together, caring for each other and our planet, and will help children develop a sense of belonging to their community and the natural world. We will learn about growing our own food, composting, and recycling. Learning important life skills will also increase the children’s confidence and self-assurance in directing their own learning. We have chickens in a separate area learning about them helps children to understand emotions, develop empathy and learn how to care for others. Seeing our hens up close enables children to see how they eat, play, move and communicate. Allowing them to have the responsibility to feed, water, collect eggs, show love truly makes us better stewards for our environment.

🌞Our Nature Table has a variety of natural and open ended materials, including a lot of opportunities for messy play. Giving plenty of opportunities for exploring, experimenting, and investigating. We made our very own mud, flower paint…. Allowing the kids to touch, smell and create allows for a natural connection to our environment.

🌷Well-being We will encourage authentic, active, hands-on learning. Children will be supported in their ability to direct their own learning and show good judgement while taking calculated risks.
