Our Teachers

Wanda Luttrell, Director Wanda graduated from the University of California in 1989 with an Management degree. In 2008, she realized her dream of having her own in home childcare program after the birth of her 3rd son. She continues college courses to this date and maintains 45+ hours in training per year in this field and received her CDA and continues to maintain it.. She teaches the Pre- K class Mon-Friday. Her favorite thing about what she does is developing relationships with the children that she teaches and their families. She believes that small class size and the development of a strong community allow her and her team to really know each child as an individual and to provide a solid and supportive foundation in the early years.

Philosophy

At our school, we strive to create a safe and caring community of young explorers. Our program is a place where children can learn through doing, invent through making, and solve problems by working together. We believe that when children are truly engaged with their environment, magic happens. Our team of experienced and innovative teachers do this by creating a space driven by the interests and ideas of the children who inhabit it.

Location

We’re in the Southwest Dubois school district; on a rural county road on OLD Road 64, in a single family home. With easy access to transit, (Holland or Huntingburg elementary school transportation ), so parent can choose which school their child wants to attend, and everything from the Library to the Huntingburg Park are just a short drive away. - a parent’s dream!

About our program

At Sunshine Kids Daycare/ Pre-K , we teach the concepts of math, science, engineering, art, social sciences and early literacy through our play-based, child-led curriculum. We use the interests and ideas of the children as a jumping off place. The materials are open-ended and invite discovery. Children make their own investigations and draw their own conclusions whenever possible.
