Our teachers have been with the program for many years, often beginning as parents, then becoming assistants and finally lead teachers. Each educator is FBI fingerprinted, health and safety certified, and has received over sixty hours of early childhood trainings. We are a diverse group and between us we speak Hebrew, French, Spanish. Bamana and Arabic. Didi Kerler is the director and has been at Gan Shalom since 2001. She has an MSc in early childhood education and is currently on the board of a national early childhood organization.

We strive to create a community of young learners who are sensitive and kind to each other. Learning happens through play and our role as facilitators is to enhance that play and provide opportunities to grow and develop and to nurture their sense of wonder and curiosity. We provide a variety of materials with which to test their literacy, math, and science skills and motivate them by presenting interesting materials and opportunities.

We are on the East side of Bloomington at the cross roads of Smith and Third Street. We have lots of parking and are on two bus routes. Our playground is very large and we have great visuals for truck observation!

We provide a nurturing, stimulating, and safe environment for children in our community. Our program centers on child-led learning and exploration, along with Jewish values of kindness, generosity, and community from the youngest ages. Gan Shalom Preschool is Jewish in content, character, and calendar, while also whole-heartedly welcoming interfaith, non-affiliated, and families of other faiths. Inclusion, warmth, and kindness are the foundation of all we do. We have first Friday playdates, holiday celebrations, social justice projects inviting the whole family to make friends and have fun. We also support each other in times of need through meal trains.
