Hello! I am Amanda Van Valkenburgh, a proud mother and the founder of Kid Planet Wonderschool. I was inspired to start my own program because I saw a need for high-quality care in my community. I have 17 years of experience working with young children.

I believe that as a childcare provider, it is my responsibility to not only care for your children, but to nurture their physical, social/emotional, creative and cognitive development, and to motivate them to understand themselves and others. I enjoy working closely with parents to ensure that all children have the early education they need to be successful in school and beyond.

Kid Planet Wonderschool provides a joyful, nurturing and enriching environment that includes lots of play time and fun educational experiences for infants and toddlers 5 months to 5 years old. We recognize that each child has unique talents, learning styles and personalities. Our highly qualified staff is committed to working within each child’s comfort zone to optimize emotional, social and educational results.

Class is kept to a low student-teacher ratio and fills up quickly. Kid Planet offers lots of organic, homemade snacks and meals. We can accommodate a vegetarian/vegan menu as well. Our Green environment includes non-toxic cleaning supplies and earth friendlier disposable diapers. We support cloth diapering and we recycle whenever possible.

Kid Planet Wonderschool is located in a welcoming, beautiful single family home in the College Area/SDSU neighborhood. We are conveniently located off of 70th street near the 8 freeway and close to La Mesa and Lemon Grove. Several of the parents of children enrolled in my program are college professors or come from miles away to be in our high-quality program.

Children will have some outdoor time every day in my spacious private yard. Children need space to run, jump, and move!

At Kid Planet Wonderschool, I want to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.

At Kid Planet Wonderschool, we give children time to discover, space to imagine and the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities in their everyday play.

Here are a few well-recognized facts about play:

1. Play is the key element of learning for preschool-age children.
2. Imaginary play holds a rich potential for promoting children’s cognitive, linguistic, social and physical development, Kid Planet Wonderschool views play as the basis of our learning program.
3. When activities are interesting and important to the child, they are eager to learn new vocabulary, physical skills, social behaviors, etc. We learn by doing, creating - Playing!

Observing children’s spontaneous play is a window into their ideas and feelings about the world. As such, it is a rich source of ideas for activity planning.

Understanding the developmental needs of various age groups, our daily activities allow all children to be engaged. I have learned that music can bridge gaps, making circle time fun and age appropriate for all levels. Helping to develop creativity in children is not always product orientated. Playing with building blocks, play dough, sensory tables, and other media are all forms of creative expression and/or art. Dramatic play, language arts, science and math activities, as well as outdoor play are all a part of the program.

If you would like to enroll, please submit an application. Please note that we require tours for all prospective families. Please do not submit an application if you have not visited the program.

4. Enroll

After reviewing your application, we’ll send an enrollment invitation. Upon accepting your invitation you’ll pay your enrollment fee, fill out enrollment documents and review our Parent Handbook.
