BURCIN, DIRECTOR AND HEAD TEACHER
Hello, I’m Burcin! I was inspired to start my own program because I’ve loved working with children since I was young. I have experience working as a kindergarten teacher in France and earned ‘The Youth Activity Leaders’ (B.A.F.A) Certificate in 2009. I was inspired by Montessori teachings and am currently studying to become Montessori certified.
French is my first language and my program will be bilingual (French & English), as I believe it is important to introduce a second language to children during the first few years of their life.
Outside of my teaching pursuits, I am also the owner of Mini Mosho, a Handmade Baby Clothing Online Shop in Los Angeles, CA. Since moving to Los Angeles from France, I fell in love with the city and everything it has to offer. My line is inspired by my travels throughout Germany, England, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Istanbul and Greece, where I fell in love with the cultures and vibrant colors. I seek to bring a diverse and intercultural perspective into my classroom.
I can’t wait to meet your family and welcome you to Petite France Academy!

GYPSY, CLASS PET
We will be joined in the classroom by Gypsy, our sweet dog. Gypsy is a curious, friendly, and gentle French bulldog with a big heart. She will be a member of the classroom, although she spends most of her time on her own in the bedroom. She sleeps, snores, and will make sure to guard kids all day.
Achievements
Triết lý
Petite France Academy’s philosophy is to provide children with early exposure to the French language in a fun, safe and engaging environment using elements inspired by the Montessori philosophy.
Our unique French and American bilingual curriculum, open to non-French speakers to ensures students acquire academic fluency in both languages, providing them mental flexibility and open-mindedness.
At Petite France Academy, we believe children grow, learn, and thrive by following their own unique style of discovery. It is our mission to provide quality childcare and an environment that helps each child to feel confident and capable. In our program, children will feel genuinely cared for and cherished.
Địa điểm
Petite France Academy is located in a bright and warm apartment in the Culver City neighborhood.
Children will have some outdoor time every day at a mix of both my private yard and the walking area in the complex. Connecting with nature is vital to a child’s happiness and growth.
At Petite France Academy, we want to provide an environment that supports the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of each child.
Về chương trình của chúng tôi
Our classroom has learning centers with developmentally appropriate activities such as Practical life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Activities.
Practical life includes life skills to help develop independence, coordination, concentration, self-control, self-awareness, and confidence, including:
- Care of Self (food preparation, dressing, washing)
- Care of Environment (cleaning, gardening, care of pets, environmentalism),
- Grace and Courtesy (greetings, manners, social interactions),
- Control of Movement (refining movements, walking the line, moving quietly).
Sensorial activities allow the child to refine each of their senses:
- Sight (visual),
- Touch (tactile),
- Smell (olfactory),
- Taste (gustatory),
- Sound (auditory),
- Stereognostic (kinesthetic). The ability to determine the shape and weight of an object by touching or lifting it.
Language is based on phonetic awareness. Children work through specific hands-on and tactile language materials. Language runs through the curriculum.
Mathematics is developed with the use of concrete learning materials.
Culture allows the child to explore the natural world around them. The cultural area is clearly identifiable by globes, puzzle maps, flags and perhaps images or materials from other cultures. This learning center includes:
Geography (continents, landforms, earth layers, solar system),
- Zoology (classification, physiology of animals),
- Botany (ecology, classification, physiology of plants),
- History (time lines, using a calendar),
- Science.
Art and music is included within cultural activities, though we encourage creativity across all curriculum areas.
Rhythm Of The Day
9:00am Children Arrive: Children can visit self-directed learning centers until most children have arrived. Self-directed centers of interest are set up to allow children to independently choose activities that help them adjust to the beginning of the day.
9:15am Circle Time: Our circle time is a more structured setting where children are asked to practice self-regulation, increase attention span, and develop listening skills. The children greet one another, record the weather, mark the calendar, sing songs, listen to stories (we usually read a book during this time), practice finger plays, and talk about what they would like to learn that day. We encourage children to take turns talking and listening to each other.
9:30am Morning Snack: Our classroom snack is self-serve. Snack is eaten at a designated snack table that seats three or four. After washing their hands, children serve themselves using child-sized tongs and serving utensils. Polite manners and pleasant conversations are encouraged. When the children are done with their snack, they independently clear their place and wash their dishes.
9:45am Montessori Work Cycle: This is a time of intense focus and concentration as children use materials in the classroom. We use this time to allow the children to explore independently and work on lessons. Children explore and learn in the five learning centers: Practical life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Activities. Science experiments are included in our cultural activities!
11:00am Outdoor Play: Children develop their large motor and social skills during outside play. We use our community outdoor areas whenever possible. Our school has a private yard as well. Our outdoor activities include digging, exploring nature, planting a garden, running outside, outdoor painting, sand & water table, bubbles, creative sidewalk, chalk drawing, exploring nature, and more.
11:45 - 12:25pm Lunch Time: Children wash their hands, help set tables, and prepare to eat lunch. Children clean up from lunch and transition to rest time. Children in a half day program will start eating lunch 15 minutes before pick up time. Children with a half day + lunch will start eating their lunch provided by school 30 minutes before pick up time.
NOTE: Some children in child care have special dietary requirements: food allergies, cultural and religious preferences, and vegetarian diets. At our school, we ensure that children with special dietary needs receive appropriate foods.
12:00pm Half-Day dismissal
12:25pm Half-Day + Lunch dismissal
12:45pm Rest time & Quiet Work Time: Children who fall asleep will be allowed to sleep as long as needed. Most children nap or rest quietly. As children wake up, they can select from a variety of quiet activities, such as playing, drawing, tracing practice, and looking at books.
1:00pm Imaginative plays, Language Based Activities, Drawing, Painting: A great time for spontaneous projects and group activities for children who do not nap. There is a misconception that Montessori classrooms do not allow for dramatic play and creativity. In our classroom, instead of pretending to cook with fake vegetables, children are given real opportunities. Real materials hold much more value than fake ones. Children are great at figuring out how objects in their world work. They want to be “big” just like their parents, which is why they want real objects. Dramatic play opportunities are present throughout our Montessori-Inspired classroom. Children are naturally creative and imaginative.
2.00pm Pick up: Departure is the closing routine of a fun day. The children sing the “Good-bye Song”, practice self-help skills by putting on their coats, and gather projects or information to be taken home. The parent or caregiver is asked to enter the classroom to pick up their child.
Note: We also have monthly food prep practice in the classrooms. These lessons are introduced in a group setting. There are many benefits of involving children in food prep. Even the pickiest of eaters have been known to be more willing to try things when they have had a hand in preparing it. This activity also helps develop fine motor skills and builds coordination and increased knowledge of nutrition, science, math, and reading. Food preparation includes banana cutting, strawberry slicing, jam spreading, cucumber slicing, and squeezing fresh orange juice. We have acquired a stock of appropriately sized plates, bowls, cups, and utensils for this activity.
THE BENEFITS OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION: Petite France Academy’s program is not an immersion experience; rather, French is seamlessly blended into activities throughout the day. This approach enables the children to acquire the language in a natural manner. Young children are natural language learners. While adults may struggle with language acquisition, children have the innate ability to learn several languages seamlessly and simultaneously. Not only can children process a new language effortlessly, they also inherently acquire native pronunciation.
