LaShonda Jackson - Director and Head Teacher

Hello! I am LaShonda, the founder of Shepherd’s Playhouse Wonderschool . I was inspired to start my own program by my late beloved mother who cared for children in our home as a child. I started working with children at a very early age and have 10 years of experience working with young children. I’ve had the pleasure to work with special needs and learn about children’s behavior of how they develop in different areas as they grow. I believe that children should be in a nurturing environment where learning comes naturally, with patients and loving adults.

Philosophy

At Shepherd’s Playhouse Wonderschool, we believe that children grow, learn, and thrive by exploring and making new discoveries. It is our goal to provide an environment that makes children feel welcomed, safe, and at home. In our program, children will be respected, feel genuinely cared for and cherished.

Our program follows a play-based philosophy/Reggio Emailia inspired. We believe that children develop independence, learn social, cognitive, and emotional skills by exploring new experiences. My environment is responsive to the children in our care, and allows children’s own interests to help facilitate their learning and engagement.

We want children to leave our programing kindergarten readiness, knowing who they are with a deep curiosity and help them believe they can soar in the world.

Location

Shepherd’s Playhouse Wonderschool is located in a warm, welcoming single family home Near the Antioch Community Park neighborhood.

We’ve thoughtfully designed our care environment with play and learning areas that allow children to explore various developmentally-appropriate activities based on their interests. Some of our favorite areas include reading / cozy area (for literacy, relaxation, and respite), dramatic play area (for self-expression and empathy), and art area (for expressing emotions and ideas).

Children will have some outdoor time everyday a mix of my private yard and local parks and playgrounds. Connecting with nature lets children gain deeper knowledge of themselves and the world.

At Shepherd’s Playhouse Wonderschool, our goal is to provide an enriching environment where children feel free to explore and play.

2. Tour our program

Come see what makes Shepherd’s Playhouse Wonderschool unique. If we are currently hosting tours, you can request or schedule a tour at the top of this page. If we are not currently hosting tours, you’ll see a “Request Info” button at the top of this page; if you submit your information using this button, we will notify you when we start host tours again in the future.

3. Submit an Enrollment Application

If you would like to enroll, please submit an application. Note that we require tours for all prospective families. Please do not submit an application if you have not visited the program.

4. Enroll

After reviewing your application, we’ll send an enrollment invitation. Upon accepting your invitation you’ll pay your enrollment fee, fill out enrollment documents and review our Parent Handbook.

Please Note: For families in need of scholarships or financial assistance, we accept subsidy payments from Contra Costa Child Care Council. Inquire to learn more.
