Parent Resources

8th January 2022

With Texas ranking as the second biggest state area-wise in the United States, you can assume that there is an endless list of things to do and places to visit. Texas offers a wide variety of things, from big city activities to nature to cool museums to the beach. If you are a parent, it will be important that these places are kid-friendly. Fortunately, there are several interesting and engaging places for families in the state. Read below for a list of kid-friendly places to visit in Texas.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas – San Antonio

Six Flags is one of the most thrilling theme parks in Texas and a great kid-friendly place to spend the day. The park offers amazing classic roller coaster rides. For younger children who may not be able to ride the bigger rides, it also has a fun waterpark and live entertainment. Six Flags actually has rides that are designated for young children, too. They also have restaurants, a souvenir shop, and Looney Toons characters that your child can meet and get an autograph from.

Space Center – Houston

The Space Center is one of Houston’s points of pride. Did you know that Houston is known for aiding in NASA’s space exploration expeditions? The Space Center is a nonprofit educational organization offering space education programs and the space museum. A leader in space education and learning, it offers guests more than 400 space artifacts and interesting exhibits which change throughout the year. The Space Center strives to be both engaging and educational. Your child can see a real moon rock, try on a spacesuit, and hop in a space simulator. Children ages 3 and younger get in free.

Dallas Zoo – Dallas

The Dallas Zoo is only three miles outside of the city center and has over 100 acres of land. With over 2000 animals and over 400 different types of species, your child will be entertained for hours. The zoo has animals from multiple continents, including Asia, South America, and Africa. The exhibits are complete with environments that are designed to look like the animals’ natural habitats. Zoologists are present throughout the park to engage in teaching moments. They love to answer whatever questions your child may have about the animals they are seeing! As an added bonus for those who live in the Dallas area, the zoo offers summer day camps for children in kindergarten to fifth grade.

Fort Worth Museum of Science and History – Fort Worth

This museum was previously called the Fort Worth Children’s Museum, so it is definitely a kid-friendly place. It is an interactive museum complete with several child-friendly activities to learn about science and history. Your kids can play in a dinosaur dig pit, act as EMTs and doctors, draw and paint in a Design Studio, and build objects and buildings in an Inventor Studio. With so many interactive options for your children, plan to spend the entire day at this museum!

Cave Without a Name – Boerne

This beautiful limestone cave is tucked away in Central Texas. Going to this natural cave is a great way to get out of the city and explore a unique side of nature. The Cave Without a Name has six rooms inside. It takes guests an hour tour through, seeing stalactites, stalagmites, and other natural rock formations along the way. You and your child can even enjoy live music in the cave if you attend the monthly concert. Your child can search for gems, explore the trails around the cave, and cut open a real gemstone. Children under the age of 6 are allowed in for free.
