Research has documented the many benefits of mixed-age learning environments for children. While wonderful, these types of environments do come with their own set of challenges.
One of those challenges is planning and implementing learning activities that reach all of the ages and stages in the program. This, in particular, can be a challenge because that requires a particular fluency in the developmental levels of all age groups. As the educator and care provider in a mixed-age environment you need to be able to adapt your environment, materials, and activities to meet the different needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
