Play-based where children get to explore the environment in a child-lead approach. The program incorporates baking, gardening, and art projects along with an ample amount of outdoor time. This is a place for children to enjoy being curious about their surroundings.
We’ve converted two living areas and turned them into interesting child friendly places for constructive learning. It is a “yes” space, in other words, there is nothing in our program that a child is told they can’t do. Our director, Yadira, loves including parents in her program and sharing photos from the day.
We have a safe and bright stand alone home. We have a playground where kids can enjoy a beautiful day, learn to share, and play with toys. We are conveniently located in San Mateo, close to the 101 and 92 freeways at 205 North Claremont Street San Mateo, CA 94401.
In a state like California, I find that it is important to expose children to the Spanish language. It is very beneficial for them, as scientific studies show that children who are bilingual are better problem solvers, and they will someday use that knowledge in their careers as well. That is why I offer a bilingual program at Nikko’s Playhouse. I help children slowly build up their Spanish vocabulary without taking away from their learning in the English language. On the contrary, I combine both so that they can learn equally in both languages.
Nikko’s Playhouse also has a private and gated playground with additional toys to help children in their imaginative play. It’s very important for children to be exposed to the outdoors in a safe way and it can help increase their desire to explore and learn more about the world around them. Nikko’s Playhouse also offers a spacious playing and learning area where children can sing along to their favorite songs, learn about different subjects, and engage in indoor imaginative play. I try to expose the children to a little bit of everything each day. It’s never boring at Nikko’s Playhouse and I hope you’ll come see for yourself!
Nikko’s Playhouse Director, Yadira Ortiz, has worked with children her entire life. As an older sister, she would care for her younger siblings. In doing so, she learned the importance of providing quality educational care to children. She saw the impact a strong education would have on children and wants every child to learn and thrive so that they can develop into successful adults. Yadira has lead Nikko’s Playhouse for over a year, but has had many years of experience caring for children. Yadira volunteered at various after school programs in the Peninsula where she learned about teaching and interacting with children. Yadira is a proud mother of two and knows the importance of treating kids how she would like her kids to be treated. She knows it is not easy to leave your children in the hands of someone else, but she trusts that as you get to know her, you will feel comfortable and satisfied at Nikko’s Playhouse.
