Philosophy

Here at Banana Fana Nursery we believe that every child deserves to be nurtured, respected, appreciated and loved. We are more than just a child care, here your curious little one can explore their five senses that will help stimulate and develop their growth. We provide a “home away from home” to make your child feel safe and secure. We also believe that a child learns to trust when needs are met quickly. Therefore, it’s a safe place to learn and explore.

Social-emotional skills give infants and toddlers the self-esteem and self-confidence they need to continue building loving and supportive relationships. We are able to embrace this through playtime.

Young children pick up language quickly. Here they will pick Spanish. Our teachers speak, read, and sing in Spanish. Music is a huge part of our program and the children will be exposed to different rhythms and beats from Latin American countries.

Location

Banana Fana Nursery is located in a home in the Park Merced complex. Park Merced was built in the early 1940’s. The community is very family friendly. The best part of our location is the natural life we hear, see, smell and touch! The colors of a butterfly will capture a child’s eye and if we are lucky, we will see hummingbirds on our patio. Hearing the crickets chirp will have your curious child search for it. We are steps away from a new gated playground that we will utilize on a daily basis.

At Banana Fana Nursery, we offer a home like environment with an educational twist. Children will have their gross motor play area where young ones can use their upper and lower body strength. The toy section has been thoughtfully laid out for children from 6 months - 3 years old. Our reading corner is full of Spanish books along with a cozy chair where we expect our students to engage with literature.

Banana Fana is an in-home nursery—“home” is at the essence.

About Our School

Use of Spanish in the classroom/ Uso del Español en el aula

Research shows that young children are uniquely suited to learning a second language and there are many developmental benefits that arise from learning language at a young age. Gloria has designed her curriculum at Banana Fana Nursery to be fully Spanish Immersion. For children who have not been exposed to Spanish, Adriana will create a plan that your family is comfortable with. Both Gloria and Adriana are passionate about Latin Culture and music. At Banana Fana, children are exposed to the Spanish language through “musica” and sing and dance while hearing great Spanish nursery rhymes.

Parent Involvement

Our goal is to create a program that is like a second family for your children. We hope to build close relationships with you, the parents. While we ask that parents do not stay past drop-off each day as that can disrupt transitions, we do welcome parent volunteers in the classroom! Parents have the option to volunteer one day in the classroom every 2 months. Please let Gloria and Adriana know if you are interested in helping, we’d love your support!

Gloria Morales Nova

Owner/Program Director

Gloria is a San Francisco Native who was born and raised in the Ocean View neighborhood. She opened up Banana Fana Preschool in June 2017 but she felt as if her program was missing something- younger infants! This inspired her to open Banana Fana Nursery. Gloria received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Criminal Justice from San Francisco State University. She has also completed some courses in Early Child Education From City College of San Francisco. Gloria has a “child-like” soul which allows her to play, sing, and dance with children. She believes children are so curious and that curiosity brings her so much joy. Her mother and father were born in Managua, Nicaragua which allowed Gloria to grow up in a Nicaraguan culture at home. Gloria has traveled to Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Peru, Costa Rica and Mexico where she fell in love with the vibrant colors and has brought each country’s culture into her classrooms.

We are a proud member of the Wonderschool network.
