At Love-N-Care, we believe every child can learn different languages when they are directly exposed to them. In fact, research states that the first 5 years are crucial in learning a new language. The benefits of being bilingual are extensive and include promoting neural activity in areas related to memory and attention, greater focus on tasks, and increased grey matter in the brain. We provide a loving in-home program that features play-based learning, arts, music, storytime, and activities that are both structured and unstructured while nurturing the mind, body, and spirit of each child. We encourage children to communicate, work together as a team, learn empathy by helping others, and also to verbalize their own needs. At Love-N-Care, we believe in the importance of providing a loving and secure environment for children to learn, and we are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, challenging, and holistic learning environment. The philosophy of Love-N-Care is based on the principles of Waldorf education in which each child is seen as a unique individual. We look forward to working with you and your family!
“Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul.” — kindergarten pioneer Friedrich Frobel.

Love-N-Care is located in a beautiful 1977 tri-level single family home in the quiet neighborhood of the Clayton Valley Highlands at the Concord/ Clayton border at 1347 New Hampshire Drive Concord, CA 94521. The school occupies the entire first level, the upstairs bathroom, and one bedroom upstairs. There are plenty of activity areas for children to explore and learn, including a dramatic play area to unleash children’s imagination, reading area, train table, sand and water tables, art easels, and pretend play kitchen structures. The school has been thoughtfully laid out and decorated to provide a safe, peaceful setting with plenty of Grimm’s toys, books, art supplies, blocks, trains, puzzles, puppets, and other inspiring invitations to explore. Each child is provided with his/her own comfortable cot for nap time. Love-N-Care students will enjoy the outdoor fenced play area which is surrounded by beautiful native trees. Our outdoor space is designed for children to feel connected to and confident with nature.
Through a mixture of guided and undirected creative play, children in our preschool will have the opportunity to learn about colors, shapes, textures, numbers, letters, animals, seasons, feelings, senses, nutrition, personal hygiene, manners, basic science and math concepts, and creative concepts such as “pretend” play, art, music, drama, and dance. These are all things that most preschoolers are able to learn through creative, educational play. Each child will be allowed to learn at his/her own pace. We do not force children to achieve developmental milestones. There will never be pressure on a child to learn something faster than he/she is able to. Children will be exposed to Spanish during their time with us. Love-N-Care has partnered with Contra Costa Care Council and is a member of their healthy nutritional food program.
Evelyn Vergara’s love for people and their overall development led her to obtaining a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. She worked with families in San Francisco assisting them with family dynamic challenges, parenting skills, and other socioeconomic stressors. She is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College of CA in Moraga, and also has a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from her alma mater. Evelyn is a native speaker in Spanish. Having been raised in a small coastal town in Mendocino County and attending preschool on an Indian reservation, she appreciates the impact that nature has on the overall development in children. She has taken several Tinkergarten classes with her son, and plans to incorporate what she has learned in her program. During her undergraduate studies at Saint Mary’s, she often took care of children while juggling her course work in Business Administration and Psychology. Evelyn is dedicated in her learning, and plans on obtaining her Lifeways Early Childhood Certification to deepen her undersanding of the Waldorf education. She has a passion for watching students learn and succeed through developmentally appropriate strategies and experiences. Evelyn and her husband, whom she met at Saint Mary’s, have a son and two miniature dachshunds. She enjoys going on hikes with her family, swimming, and attending cultural and social events within her community.
