Mrs. Maya is an experienced educator who graduated from the #1 university in Texas, Rice University, in 2017 and began her career as an elementary special education teacher. She earned a Teacher of the Year nomination in her first year in the classroom. With a diverse background spanning roles such as reading specialist, dyslexia interventionist, department lead, and ASL teacher, she transitioned to college athletics administration post-COVID before rediscovering her true passion for early childhood development. Now, as the founder and lead teacher at Joan’s Preschool Learning Haven, Mrs. Maya is dedicated to creating an inclusive and individualized environment. Her commitment to personalized education delivered with care, coupled with her infectious enthusiasm for guiding young minds, reflects in her vision for a nurturing classroom where toddlers and preschoolers explore, discover, and develop independence with joy and eagerness.

At Joan’s Preschool Learning Haven, our onboarding philosophy is Play-Based, Reggio-Emilia Inspired, and Holistic Early Childhood Education. We believe in providing a rich environment where children can explore, create, and learn at their own pace, nurturing their natural curiosity and encouraging holistic development. Through engaging activities and play, we strive to enhance early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills, sparking a lifelong love for learning.

Additionally, our philosophy seamlessly integrates the Montessori homeschool curriculum, Constellation, and the comprehensive early learning approach of FrogStreet. We embrace the belief that every child is a unique learner, deserving of an individualized educational journey that fosters curiosity and ignites a passion for exploration, critical thinking, and creativity. By combining the best elements of Montessori and FrogStreet, we create an environment where children flourish as confident, curious learners, well-equipped to navigate the world ahead.

Located in the Overlake neighborhood of Redmond; our single family home is located on a quiet street. We have a large, flat backyard and an extended converted garage for plenty of gross motor activities inside and out. We’re also conveniently a few blocks away from the beautiful Westside Park.
