Brittney Highsmith is an educator born in Summit, New Jersey and raised in Scotch Plains, NJ. Ms. Highsmith attended Science High School, a top magnet school in New Jersey, where she was greatly influenced by her very articulate and scholarly guidance counselor, a Spelman graduate. Inspired, Highsmith went on to graduate from Spelman College, class of 2009, where she was a Public Policy Intern for the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Following her experience, she became a Program Director for the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance where she was responsible for community outreach and annual fundraising - reaching their $150,000 goal.

At this time in Ms. Highsmith’s life, she had realized her love for working with people and her desire to give back to her community. She soon joined the New York City Teaching Fellows in 2010 to receive her certifications in grades K through 9 as a generalist and special education teacher. She then graduated from Hunter College with a Master of Science in Education (MS.Ed) and a concentration in Special Education in 2012. For the next 10 years, Ms. Highsmith honed her craft across grade levels in both general and special needs education, achieving over 2 years of growth in reading comprehension and mathematics from spring to spring, avoiding summer slide and closing the achievement gap, pupils at a time. She takes pride in the amount of children that she has promoted out of special needs education, as their gaps have closed, and they are now above grade level and in college. Ms. Highsmith intends to bring the art of learning to many more children, providing them with the excellent community education that her mom sought out for her when she was a child. Ultimately, she sees this work as her personal duty and is honored to serve her community.

Ms. Highsmith has one daughter, her pride and joy, whom she also homeschools. She enjoys a fit lifestyle, going to the movies with friends, learning, and conquering new goals.

Filosofía

At Ingenious Wonder Home School, we embrace a philosophy where all scholars can learn and surpass expectations through structure, rigor, and play. We ensure children can read and perform basic arithmetic before kindergarten, fostering a love for learning and self-belief. Through master teaching, compassion, and joy, we cultivate imagination through nature, play, and exploration. Additionally, we follow a Montessori-inspired curriculum to encourage children to explore the world, ignite creativity, and problem-solve in our maker space. Children possess boundless thinking and creative abilities, guiding us towards endless possibilities.
